Parlific

Tap a French word. Hear it said right.

Parlific is a French pronunciation app for iPhone and iPad. Every word plays in a natural French voice, a little slower than conversation, so you know how it sounds before you say it.

Tap a word to hear it. This demo uses your browser's French voice; the app uses the French voices built into iOS.

French spelling hides the sound. Parlific plays it for you.

Silent letters, nasal vowels, the r at the back of the throat: written French doesn't tell you how a word sounds. Hearing it does.

Hear exactly how each word is said

Each pack opens into a grid of words, French on top and English underneath. Tap one and a natural French voice says it at a learner's pace. Tap it again, and again. There's no limit and no timer.

Choose the voice you like best in Settings and hear a preview before you switch.

Parlific's Numbers 0-9 group: a grid of word tiles from zéro to neuf, each with its English meaning.
The Intro to French pack, organized into sections such as Numbers and Colors & Shapes, each holding groups of words.

Words grouped the way you learn them

Packs are split into sections and small groups: numbers 0 to 9, colors, shapes, animals, greetings. A group is short enough to learn in a sitting, so you always know what to practice next.

Then make it stick

  • Quiz yourself with flashcards

Go English to French, French to English, or mix them. Study a whole pack, one section, one group or just your bookmarks.

  • Scan French from the real world

Photograph a menu, a sign or a page of a book. Parlific reads the text on your phone, lets you hear each word and add the ones you want to a pack.

  • Make packs of your own

Build a pack for your trip, your class or your favorite recipes. Or duplicate any Parlific pack and change it to suit you.

  • Bookmark the tricky ones

Save the groups you keep stumbling over and come back to them in one list, ready to hear or quiz.

  • Practice offline

Packs live on your phone and the voices are built into iOS, so it all works on a plane or the metro.

  • Nothing to sign up for

No account, no email, no ads, no tracking. Your packs, bookmarks and progress stay on your device.

How it works

  1. Install Parlific and a French voice

The app shows you where to download Apple's free enhanced French voice. It takes about a minute.

  2. Open a pack and tap words

Start with Intro to French. Listen, repeat out loud, tap again until it sounds right to you.

  3. Test yourself

Run flashcards on a group, bookmark the ones that trip you up and come back to them tomorrow.

Your French practice stays on your phone

Parlific has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. It never records your voice. Photos you scan are read on your device and not uploaded or kept.

The only things it fetches from the internet are the packs themselves. Everything you create, bookmark or study stays on your device. Read the privacy policy.

Questions about Parlific

What is Parlific?

Parlific is a French pronunciation app for iPhone and iPad. It works like a soundboard: tap any French word and hear it spoken in a natural French voice, a little slower than conversation, with the English meaning underneath. Words come in themed packs, and you can test yourself with flashcards.

Does Parlific score my pronunciation?

No. Parlific never records your voice. It gives you a clear, natural French model to listen to and copy as many times as you like, which is how most learners train their ear before they train their mouth.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, login or email. Purchases go through your Apple ID, and everything you make in the app stays on your device.

Does Parlific work offline?

Yes. Once a pack has downloaded it is stored on your device, and the French voices are part of iOS, so you can listen and quiz yourself without a connection.

Which devices does Parlific run on?

Parlific runs on iPhone and iPad with iOS 15.1 or later. Translating English text you scan into French needs iOS 17.4 or later. There is no Android version yet.

Why does Parlific ask me to download a French voice?

Parlific speaks with Apple's enhanced French voices, which sound far more natural than the defaults. They are free; the app walks you through downloading one in Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Voices > French.

Is Parlific good for beginners?

Yes. Intro to French starts with numbers, colors, greetings and everyday words. The Phonology Pack covers the alphabet and core French sounds, and the Grammar Pack and Verb Pack 1 take you further.

Can my family use the packs I buy?

Yes. Packs are shared with your family through Apple Family Sharing at no extra cost.

How do refunds work?

Apple handles every purchase, so refunds are requested from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com. If you reinstall Parlific or move to a new device, tap Restore Purchases in Settings to get your packs back.
